Track Your Visitors With Statcounter
Do you know who visits your site and how they leave it?
There are many plugins that you can use to keep track of your visitors but the one I use is Statcounter.
The free version gives me all the stats I need and it is good to see that on one of my sites most people leave through an affiliate link or via an Adsense ad.
Take a look at this short video and you will see it in action on my Cycling site….
Even if you don’t like the look of Statcounter you should really use something to keep track of your visitor stats even if it is Awstats or Webalizer from your control panel.
Until the next KISS moment.

Hi Dave I just had to try out Stat Counter after seeing it recommended on your blog, however I did not find the installation as straight forward as I expected,
I used the wordpress plugin but their site seemed to assume I either had a blog at wordpress.org or that I was installing the counter code manually, I didn’t see the project ID or security code until they emailed me the html code for installing manually, it was within the html code that I found the relevant info I needed to get the plugin working and linking to the Stat Counter site.
Now Stat Counter is working fine on my blog and I can see why you have recommended it, because it’s great!.
I’ll be keeping an eye out for your other recommendations in future,
Nice one Dave,
Cheers
Pete Chapman
Hi Pete,
Maybe it was because I already had it installed on another blog which made it more straightforward for me.
Glad you got there in the end!
Dave
Hi Dave
I use stat counter it really is a great tool and useful in so many ways. Great for tracking the best keywords and seeing if anyone clicked on a product link. The information it gives you is astounding I have found it really useful on my ecommerce site but also as a means of testing PPC campaigns as it helps you to eliminate keywords that are not cost effective.
Some people prefer google analytics but statcounter gets my vote.
Best Wishes
Clive
Hi Clive,
I agree it really is useful and what’s more it is free to use which is always a good thing.

Hi Dave
I use Google Analytics for all my sites but I will give Statcounter a look at so thanks for sharing.
Have a great day
Pauline
Hi Pauline,
I also use Google Analytics on my static sites but since I discovered the Statcounter plugin I use it on my blogs.
It is the second plugin I activate after Akismet.
Let us know what you think of Statcounter once you have tried it.
Dave
Hi Dave!
I used Statcounter many years ago but was not impressed with the appearance of the counter so I gave it up. I’ll check into it again and see how they have come along since. Its important to be able to track traffic to your site. Thanks for sharing.
Regards,
Xavier
Hi Xavier,
I don’t actually put the counter on my site so I can’t comment as to how it looks.
I just ues Statcounter to see which keywords my visitors are coming from and to ensure that when they leave they do so through Amazon or Adsense.
If only!
Dave
Thanks for recommending this Dave. Think I’ll give the free version a go as well.
Quick question for you. Should I definitely have a traffic counter in addition to Google Analytics or can the options mentioned above be used in place of Google Analytics?
Thanks again for this post Dave.
Mark
Hi Mark,
In reply to your question it is down to personal choice really.
There is nothing wrong with having both systems in place but having at least one gives you some idea of your visitor stats.
I like the at a glance stats that Statcounter provide, especially the exit links ones.
